Everyone knows and uses Youtube, even on a daily basis. And many are thinking of using it to increase their visibility on the web. But before you launch your career as a Youtuber, there are 3 things you can’t ignore.
Unlike semi-closed network-based platforms such as Facebook or Linkedin, YouTube creates communities with common interests. This facilitates the creation of internal links, but also external walls.
The propagation capacity of a content or a channel depends on Youtube’s algorithm: if you want it to help you achieve your business goals, the best way is to help Youtube folks achieve theirs.
Youtube is not only a video platform, it is above all a search engine. In other words, it organises and presents video content on the basis of its textual data. Make sure you understand search engine optimisation.
BEFORE GETTING STARTED
Video marketing is the use of a video solution as a tool to achieve a marketing objective.
A video solution consists of strategy, production and promotion. Consequently, it is the purpose that defines the format and not vice versa.
In turn, even the use of YouTube for marketing purposes presupposes the existence of a precise strategic need.
In short, I must not be influenced by the fashions of the moment, but use the platform that best combines objectives, values and resources.
Before spending hundreds of hours on YouTube marketing, make sure you have already spent thousands of hours watching what your future competitors are already doing.
Talking about everything is the same as talking about nothing. On Youtube there is a lot of competition, but also a lot of space. Make sure you have something unique to say or share.
Being the world expert in your field is of little use if nobody cares about your field. Data analysis platforms such as Ahrefs allow you to check the volume of traffic per keyword on YouTube.
Are you an expert in a field or do you simply know how to make people laugh? Can you make people cry or at least provoke them? Make sure you know your strengths but also your weaknesses.
How much time do you have? While you’re fooling around in front of the camera, who’s paying your rent? Whatever Youtube marketing strategy you set up, make sure you can sustain it in the long run (because those who really do it, do nothing else in life).
It is very difficult to know your audience when you don’t have an audience yet. Does the audience you have in mind also exist in the real world? Find a way to find out.
Youtube wants users to watch as many videos as possible, in order to send them as many advertisements as possible. Thinking of video content in a serial form encourages your audience to click on the next video.
Youtube is not happy if you add a link to the description of your video that pushes users off the platform. However, if you embed the video elsewhere (on your site, in an email, on another social network), you make Youtube happy.
In the marketing world there are calls to action, in the social world challenges prevail. The idea is to get viewers to do something that demonstrates their level of participation.

There are no magic recipes for success with YouTube marketing. Or at least we don’t know them. But we do believe in the experimental method. Test, fail, and try until you realise that you have too many neurons to become a successful Youtuber 🙂
